Last night I watched my daughter’s two dogs as they sat looking out the window for her husband Victor to come home from work. The moment they saw his truck, they rushed to the door awaiting it to open so they could jump all over him with joy and excitement. It was cute to watch.

Dogs can teach us so much about being patient. As you know it is more than likely not coincidental that dog spelled backwards is God. Always waiting patiently with open arms. In his parable of the prodigal son, I picture the Father much like the dog who looks out the window, sits by the door or sits on the porch, raising his head as each car passes, hoping it is his or her master.
Our dog Zoe, who we nicknamed Zoers, is so excited when she sees one of our cars turn in  the driveway as she patiently watches for us by the door. Then as we enter the house she runs to us for that hug and joyous reunion. So exuberant and full of energy, ready to play.
We often pray without patience. We get upset with God when His answer is not at the speed we feel it should be. His timing is always going to be perfect. Just because we don’t see the answer on our schedule does not mean He is not at work putting all the pieces in place. We can learn from our dogs, wait patiently, don’t rush God, the answer is coming and the reunion with the Master will be over the top, out of this world and amazing.
God, I admit I am not good at waiting for anything. I really want you to answer same hour or at least, same day. But my request for healing my back pain pales to the daughter sitting by her mom in hospice. Please forgive me and help me to wait for You. I do not want to rush you while you are busy at your perfect plan for me. I love you and thank you for loving this old man who is still struggling with patience. And You thought the disciples were slow to learn. Oh, and thank you for the Godwink in the spelling of the animal or pet that exhibits the absolute unconditional love you have for us. As my wife and Zoers are patiently awaiting my return from California, let them know they are loved and missed too. In Jesus name I pray, Amen
