“And He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds, you were healed.” 1 Peter 2:24 (New American Standard Bible)
My mother tells a story of when I was a little girl and she took me to the doctor. He told me he was going to give me a shot to make me feel better. One look at that needle and I leaped off the exam table, running away down the hall. No one could catch me and administer that shot, but that didn’t stop the doctor from charging my mother for the medication he had not administered.
The cross reminds me of that experience. Jesus suffered, taking on ALL of our sin. According to the word, we are healed by His wounds. But instead of us having to pay for that healing, Christ paid it for us through His death. Our healing was provided for us over 2000 years ago. All we have to do is accept it. That’s it. Nothing more. There’s no payment plan, no checks to write. All we have to do is say, “Yes, Lord. Thank you.”
This story also reminds me that Paul wrote, “When I was a child, I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child. But when I grew up, I put away childish things.” (1 Cor. 13:11 New Living Translation) I am no longer a scared child. I no longer run from healing. I run TO healing! Praise God, our healing is here!
Thank you, Jesus, for providing our healing on Calvary. We fully accept your gift of grace. There is no one who is as good as you are! We praise you and lift your holy name in thanksgiving for all you have done and continue to do for us!
