On Saturday, April 27th, the newly organized Flat Rock Church & Cemetery Association will be hosting its first fundraiser, The 2024 “Flat Rock Frolic” in an effort to restore  historic Flat Rock Church. Activities will begin with a driving tour  hosted by the Exploring Izard County Facebook Group and will coincide later in the day with a BBQ fundraiser at Flat Rock Church & Cemetery.

The tour will consist of two segments: At 9am, the participants will hike among the standing stones of Flat Rock Hollow to the Sentinel Valley Waterfall; at 10:30, the group will meet again at Flat Rock Church to commence the driving tour which will include a hike into gorgeous Tan Trough Hollow followed by stops at Moon Rock Hollow, the antebellum Harber House, and the newly restored Wideman Schoolhouse. The tour will conclude at the BBQ fundraiser where other activities are planned. There is no charge for the tour, though a $20 suggested donation to the restoration efforts will be appreciated.

The BBQ fundraiser, provided by Corky Shortt on the grounds of Flat Rock Church & Cemetery will occur between 12pm and 3pm. Activities will include a hike into adjacent Flat Rock Hollow to visit two waterfalls, musical and literary entertainment provided by our Roving Musician, Zac Dockins, and a “hit & miss” farm engine demonstration by James Walters with his excellent collection of antiques. A $10 donation for a BBQ dinner will help the new organization reach its goal of restoring the historic Church.

T-Shirts will also be available for purchase in support of the effort.
