Weather predictions are looking kinder and less like winter as 2026 begins.

According to Colby Pope with the National Weather Service in Little Rock, the temperatures will remain above normal, but some precipitation is in the short-term forecast.

“Our first chance of any rainfall is gonna be on Friday. Then as I get into that, the next work week it’s gonna be toward the middle into and end when we get into a more unsettled pattern.” Pope said. “We will have chances for rain across area and potentially a few isolated thunderstorms.”

As for the long-range forecast, Pope said it will likely be more of the wet stuff and less chances of the white stuff.

“Right now, we’re still in a trend of above normal temperatures that’s gonna continue through likely through the next 14 days. Overall, there will be above normal chances for precipitation,” Pope said. “With that above normal temperature, the chance for wintery precipitation is very low over the next two weeks.”

It is recommended to remain or become prepared for winter precipitation, as it is January.
