Melbourne High School kicked off the Volleyball season on Thursday August 26, 2021. Melbourne hosted Cave City at the Mt. Pleasant gymnasium. A large crowd attended the first game and were treated to this new sport with a 7th grade and 8th grade victory in two 15 minute games. The JR high team won their first set but ultimately dropped the next two. The varsity team faced a more experienced Cave City team and also dropped their match.
The Bearkatz began practicing in the summer for this new sport. Impressive athleticism was on display for all the Bearkatz teams despite the inexperience.
Bearkatz Volleyball future is bright under the direction of Coach Olivia Hughes and Assistant Jordan Webb as the game experience is gained for these athletes.
