A man who used his truck to assault a couple is facing charges in Fulton County following an incident Dec. 29.
According to the affidavit for warrant of arrest for 25-year-old Nicholas Holmes, authorities received a call for help shortly before 5 p.m. with the caller reporting Holmes was trying to ram into the victims with his pickup on River View Road near the Lassiter Access.
The victims stated Holmes was accompanied by his girlfriend and the incident began after Holmes had come out of the Lassiter Access at a high rate of speed, nearly hitting the victims.
One of the victims flipped Holmes off while the second put her hands up.
At that point, Holmes turned his truck around and began driving to catch up to the victims, riding their bumper until they came to a stop in town in Mammoth Spring.
Holmes then exited his truck and went to the victims, smacking the bed of the truck.
The victims pulled away from the scene and into the parking lot of Brown’s Furniture, exiting their vehicle.
Holmes then began driving on the sidewalk toward the victims narrowly missing one in the process before swerving to avoid hitting a light pole.
Surveillance footage from Simmons Bank showed one of the victims approximately eight feet parallel to Main Street in the parking lot with Holmes truck almost entirely off the roadway, with the driver’s side tires in the gutter.
The footage also showed Holmes driving back by the truck after almost hitting the victim and stopping for a short time.
Although the surveillance footage did not have audio, the victims stated Holmes and his girlfriend were taunting them, trying to get them to fight.
When authorities located Holmes’ vehicle, the truck was being driven by someone else and Holmes was in the passenger seat. His girlfriend, riding in another vehicle.
While being confronted about the earlier events, Holmes denied everything. The officer noted Holmes appeared to be under the influence due to his slurred speech and aggravated state.
At a later time, authorities interviewed the new driver of Holmes truck, who stated Holmes had called, sounding agitated and possibly intoxicated, asking the man to meet him at the liquor store in Thayer to give him a ride because he was intoxicated and the police were looking for him.
As a result, Holmes has been charged with Aggravated Assault, a class D felony and misdemeanor harassment. Bond for Homes was set at $10,000 and he has since been released.
