If you’re looking for a way to add a little education into your enjoyment during the month of July, the Mammoth Spring State Park is the place to be.

On July 1, a Skins and Skulls presentation will take place at the playground from 3 p.m. until 3:30 p.m.

Tish Williams with the Mammoth Spring State Park described the event which will include a variety of animals.

“Join a park interpreter at the playground to meet some of these amazing animals. We will get to feel their fur and see their real skulls as we discover these animals’ superpowers,” Williams said.

On July 8, a Wild About Turtles Depot will be held on the breezeway from 3 p.m. until 3:30 p.m.

“Turtles are small but mighty and they play a big part in keeping our ecosystem at Mammoth Spring State Park healthy,” Williams said. “During this program we will get to meet some of the turtles that call Mammoth Spring State Park home and try out some turtle-yoga.”

You may meet the park interpreter beneath the depot breezeway and the event will feature a short, five-minute walk along the lake to turtle cove. The path is unpaved and uneven so be sure to wear approprite footwear.

Beginning July 15, Lake Trail Bingo will be held at the Welcome Center from 3 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.

“Mammoth Spring State Park may be small, but it is filled with an abundance of history, wildlife, and plant life. As we hike around the lake, we will play a game of BINGO while discovering the significance of the Mammoth Spring and how it has shaped the historic and natural landscape of the park. Make sure you return your completed BINGO card for a prize. Meet the park interpreter inside the visitor center at 3p.m,” Williams said. “It is 0.6-miles around the lake and will take 45 minutes. Some sections of the trail are unpaved and uneven; don’t forget your walking shoes and water.”

A Monarch Butterfly Migration program will be held July 22 at the playground from 3 p.m. until 3:45 p.m.

Williams said the butterflies are a sight to be seen and the presentation will not only feature some butterflies, but also contain information about what makes the butterflies so special.

“You’ll have the opportunity act as a monarch butterfly on its great migration journey. dodging obstacles to try and reach your final destination. This program will begin at 3 p.m.. all ages welcome,” Williams said.

And finally for the month of July, the 129th Old Soldiers Reunion will be held July 25 through July 29 near the battlefield from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

“This is a week of fun starting nightly at 6 p.m. with carnival rides, games, prizes, food, bingo, and more each evening,”Williams said.

There is free access and parking with the reunion sponsored by VFW Post 7831.
