Melbourne Lady Bearkatz took the lead late and defeated Southside 5 to 3 last Monday.   The  game was tied at two in the top of the fifth inning when Madison Brokaw hit a solo home run to put the Katz ahead for good.  The Lady Katz tallied 13 hits in the game.  Natalie Brightwell, Jenna Lawrence, and Rachel Kerr each had multiple hits and Brightwell was on the mound.  The Lady Katz finished the week with a double header at Sloan Hendrix and a game against Cedar Ridge to improve their season record to 13-4.  The regular season should end this week and the district tournament begins next week at Tuckerman.   

Madison Brokaw Connects with a Pitch

The Junior High Lady Bearkatz won the Jr Lady Southerner Classic softball tournament in Batesville on Saturday.  They played 4 games and outscored opponents 29-0.  Defense, offense, and pitching were on point throughout the day.  The team garnered 27 hits in four games and a stellar team batting average of .355 and on base percentage of .430.  Pitchers Rylee Hoskinds and Kallie Thornton combined to strikeout 32 batters.  The JR High Lady Katz defeated Concord, Southside, and Bigelow. to advance to the championship game.  They met Concord again in the championship game and secured the championship by a score of 7-0.
