An Izard County man is facing felony charges after admitting to taking medication which did not belong to him from a medical clinic in Calico Rock.

According to the affidavit, on Dec. 20, Investigator Sean Tomlinson was contacted by Deputy Jim Davis that Davis had detained two individuals and were possibly involved with the theft of prescription medication.

Tomlinson traveled to Davis’s location at the Hometown Clinic in Calico Rock.

Initially, both suspects, a female and 61-year-old James Stafford, denied any involvement with the theft of medication, however, eventually the female stated she had witnessed Stafford remove the prescription medication from the lobby of the clinic and carry the medication outside to his vehicle.

The witness stated she did not see where Stafford carried the container but implied it may be in his vehicle.

After describing the container, deputies spoke with Stafford who confessed that he had removed the medications from the lobby of the clinic and placed them in the floorboard of his vehicle under a pile of other items.

Stafford showed deputies where he had taken the medications at which time the evidence was photographed and seized.

The value of the medicine totaled less than $1,000 and consisted of various levels of controlled substances.

Stafford was charged with two counts of fraudulent practices, a class D felony and one count of theft of property, a class A misdemeanor. His bond has been set at $10,000.
