The Cherokee Village Police Department and Arkansas State Police are investigating an incident in Cherokee Village where a body was found.

According to authorities, on July 8 they were notified of the discovery of skeletal remains which was found in an abandoned home on Saginaw Circle.

“Patrolman Richard Crowe was sent for a welfare check to the home. The door was open so he gained entry and found the remains,” Cherokee Village Police Chief Monte Lane said.

Detective Sargent John Hutchins said the home was in disarray.

“We do not know when the person passed away or under what circumstances. The remains have been sent to the state crime lab for possible identification,” Hutchins said.

Chief Lane said Arkansas State Police Special Agent Wendall Jines assisted in the investigation which is on going.

“This matter is still under investigation. No further details will be released at this time,” Hutchins said.
