Authorities in Sharp County are investigating the discovery of human remains found March 19 on Cougar Road.
According to the report, released March 28, on March 19 shortly after 10 a.m., Lieutenant Cham Buchanan met with Lieutenant Bryce Trivitt at the address on Cougar Road after receiving the report a human skull had been found uphill from a creek bed off Caney Creek.
A controlled burn of the property had taken place earlier in the month and the skull showed signs of being burned.
While searching the area, additional bones were discovered in close proximity to the skull.
Arkansas State Police Special Agent Wendell Jines, Sheriff Shane Russell and Coroner Renee Clay-Circle assisted with the search.
The evidence was packaged and sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for further analysis.
On March 26, Buchanan spoke with Blake Bristow of Blue Streak K9 in Jonesboro regarding their assistance in searching for addition remains as the organization had a K9 trained in recovery of human remains.
At approximately 1:30 p.m. the K9 was able to locate several more bones which were then photographed, collected and sent to the state crime lab.
When speaking with the property owner, Buchanan was told the man happened upon the skull while walking along the creek.
The incident remains under investigation.
