“Little Women is a full-length comedy adapted for the stage by Marian De Forest from the much-beloved novel by Louisa May Alcott. One of the most popular stories ever written comes to life in this sparkling adaptation that has stood the test of time. Rebellious Jo March and her spirited sisters Meg, Beth, and Amy grow up, find themselves, and find love during and after the Civil War, in this adaptation of the classic Louisa May Alcott novel,” reviews state. “Little Women is a coming of age drama that focuses on the lives of the four March sisters: talented Jo, lovely Meg, frail Beth and spoiled Amy as they grow into young ladies in the nineteenth-century. The March sisters live a life of poverty but find salvation through their dreams, plays, pranks, letters, illnesses and courtships. All the familiar scenes play out in a tapestry of New England life as the March family deals with the Civil War, young love, and the tragedy of death. Critics have hailed the play as “clever,” “exerts rare charm” and “something worth rejoicing over.” Celebrated as much today as it was when it first appeared, this timeless play exhibits the virtues of a close and loving family whose perseverance continues to inspire audiences.”
The play made it’s debut in 1912 when it first appeared on Broadway for over 180 performances.
Admission is $5 for adults and $2 for students, tickets may be purchased at the door or in advance at the Highland High School office.
