According to the Highland Student Council, “Several of our StuCo kids volunteered to help out with the Backpack Extravaganza.” They are refering to the joint effort between the Highland Assembly of God Church community outreach and the Highland School District where backpacks, school supplies, and vouchers for shoes were passed out to students readying to return to school.
“After set up was finished, they were so slammed that we didn’t get just a whole lot of pictures, but what a good problem to have! Altogether, SEVEN HUNDRED backpacks were provided for families in our area.
“Highland Assembly always makes this such a great event for our community. Even given our current circumstances, they, along with our Director of Student Services, Kara King McEntire, still found a way to make it happen!”
“HUGE shoutout to all these folks for taking care of our district’s kiddos! Also, thanks for allowing our kids the opportunity to serve!”
Highland Assembly has been passing out backpacks in events for years but COVID has interfered. “We have been anxious to serve the community in tangible ways. Because of COVID, we were not able to hold the Extravaganza last year, so this year we held a drive through event,” Pastor Chris Clem said. “It didn’t look like what we had done in the past, but it filled the needs we wanted to meet and fill.”
