Highland School District requests public's help

The Highland School District is gearing up to being the 24/25 school year and Superintendent Jeremy Lewis said, the district need’s parent’s help to ensure the funding used to pay for student’s breakfasts and lunches continue to be available to the district.

“Over the last four years we’ve been very fortunate to be able to provide all of our students breakfast and lunch at no charge. We’ve been involved in what’s called a Community Eligibility Program and that has not required us to collect meal applications,” Lewis said.

This year however, the district needs parents of students to fill out and return forms to the school as this year is a “base year”.

“This year, we are transitioning to what is called Provision II. All students will still get to eat breakfast and lunch at no charge but, one of the things with this in this year alone, it is a base year. We’re required to collect meal applications from our families,” Lewis said. “It is something we haven‘t been doing, but we are going to need everyone to do it this year.”

Lewis said applications are available in many ways and forms will be sent home with each student at the beginning of the school year.

“We ask all of the families, when you get that application, to fill out a meal application and send it back. We will be sending them home with all of our students and we also have an electronic form on our website,” Lewis said. “It is something that is really important to the district and helps us establish our meal claiming in percentages so we can continue to provide breakfast and lunch at no charge to our students.”

Lewis said at this time, there will be no changes to the meal service or Child Nutrition Program and reiterated the importance of forms being returned.
