“Red and gray are our colors, but the Rebels wore orange tonight. The fans wore orange. The student section wore orange. The cheerleaders wore orange. The players wore orange. Community members wore orange. Our gym has never looked so good in orange before this night,” was the social media post from HHS Rebels following the home game against neighboring school, Cave City on Tuesday, Feb. 7.
Prior the game, it was announced the the HHS Student Council had challenged fellow peers, along with the community, in raising funds for Cave City student Jacob Moore, who was recently diagnosed with B Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.
Once diagnosed, Moore’s medical team quickly developed a treatment plan which is expected to be a two year journey. The small community immediately began working to support the family in every possible way. Businesses in Cave City began displaying encouraging messages and orange balloons for the teen. On Jan. 13, the Cave City School District posted a video compiled of messages from the students and community for Jacob.
Knowing the challenges ahead for Jacob and his family, the students of HHS wanted to do something to extend their support as well. “With the help of HHS YouPath classes, passing the bucket at basketball games, tshirt sales, and some awesome local businesses who matched the total from YouPath classes, the Cave City Seniors were presented $9,757 plus a last minute donation to raise the grand total to $10,000 to take home to Jacob and his family! Huge shoutout to EVERYONE who contributed! The gym sure did look good in orange tonight!! Special thanks to Mike Watson State Farm, Katie Stucker and Access Medical, Circle Farms, and United Country Cotham and Company – Cathy Johnson,” posted the organization following the games.
Cave City is hosting its Senior Night on Friday, Feb. 9 and it will also be “Orange Out for Jacob”. Donations will be accepted for the family upstairs in the HS gym. A half court shooting contest will also be held; $5 a shot. Winner will receive $100. All proceeds will go to the Moore family.
Senior Night festivities begin at 5:30 p.m. with the SR girls tipping off at 6 p.m. Hall of Fame ceremony will be held between games.
