A benefit concert to help provide relief to those affected by the April 5 floods in and around Hardy will be held today April 22 at the Hardy Civic Center.
According to co-organizer Ralph Lowe said the idea for the fundraiser came after the sun rose on the devastation which resulted from the flooding.
“We’re getting ready for the Heart of Hardy community celebration at the Civic Center. It started with Christopher Smith and I down at the Spring River Collective on Main Street after the storms realized we hadn’t really suffered much damage ourselves, but we had driven into town and saw some of the worst devastation we’d ever seen,” Lowe said. “We knew we had to do something, but weren’t exactly sure what we could do. As soon as we started sharing our feelings, we started getting more and more yeses from others on Main street and the community and that’s where the Heart of Hardy idea came from.”
The Heart of Hardy benefit proceeds will be given to Comfort Keepers Ministry, a 501-c-3 non-profit organization to help in their efforts to help with recovery efforts. Doors open at 5 p.m., admission is by donation and Lowe said there will be a variety of entertainers performing prior to the main act, Under the Influence.
“We were super excited when Under the Influence contacted us and said they wanted to help. We’re really excited to have them. During the 5 o’ clock hour we’re going to have some local musicians including Lincoln Pane, Mike Oregano, the Southfork Saddle Tramps, Christopher Smith who won Spring River’s Got talent last year and whoever else we can find.”
There will also be a silent auction in addition to the concert.
