Annabelle Burton, a 2024 graduate of Highland High School, has been selected as the recipient of the Boyd & Maxine Carpenter Scholarship, awarded annually by FNBC Bank. This is the 40th year for the $4,000 scholarship.
Burton completed her high school education with a 4.00 GPA. Though undecided, Burton has been accepted to a number ofprestigious universities for the fall 2024 semester, including Henderson State, Purdue, Auburn, Washington University in St Louis and the University of Florida. She plans to major in aeronautical science.
She is a former Crystal Wiles Achievement Award winner, given to one student each year for achieving excellence in the classroom and extracurriculars while exhibiting exceptional character. She was treasurer of Student Council, vice presidentof the National Honor Society, president of FBLA and an active member of Beta Club.
Burton held the honor of captain for the Lady Rebels Basketballteam and was a varsity member of the Lady Rebels Volleyball team as well as track and field and cross country. Burton also served as a member of the high school marching band.
An outside committee was selected to review all applicants and conduct interviews with their top candidates. The Arkansas Community Foundation manages the scholarship endowment fund.
Established in 1984, the Boyd & Maxine Carpenter Scholarship honors the late-FNBC Bank President and Chairman of the Board and his wife and long-time FNBC employee, Maxine, who were devoted advocates of education.
Boyd & Maxine’s son, Martin, currently serves as Chairman, and their granddaughter, Molly, serves as Senior Vice President, Chief Marketing Officer.
Graduating seniors from Izard, Fulton and Sharp County are eligible to apply. Renewable for up to four years, the recipient must maintain a 2.5 GPA on a 4-point scale, or equivalent.
