The Evening Shade Police Department has conducted a series of arrests resulting in the confiscation of a large quantity of drugs.
The first in the series of most recent arrests took place April 1 when Officer Casey stopped an orange Dodge Caliber due to the operator, an adult male identified as Caleb Goodman, having a warrant for his arrest out of Sharp County along with a suspended driver’s license.
Goodman and his adult male passenger in the vehicle, who was identified as Cody Roach, were searched for weapons and Roach was found to have a small container in his pocket that contained a crystal-like substance identified as methamphetamine.
A further search yielded green leafy substance believed to be marijuana and smoking devices. Mr. Roach was charged with possession of a controlled substance schedule 1 less than two grams and possession of drug paraphernalia. Goodman was charged for driving on a suspended license and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The following day, Officer Poulette stopped an orange Chevy truck for traffic violations. Upon contacting the driver, an adult male identified as Sean Niswonger. The odor of marijuana was detected. A search of the vehicle yielded a glass smoking device containing a crystal-like substance that field tested as methamphetamine, and two baggies containing at total weight of 60.4 grams of marijuana.
Niswonger was charged with possession of a controlled substance schedule 1 less than two grams and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The same day, Officer Poulette stopped a black Dodge pickup for traffic violations. On contact with the driver, identified as Jimmy Yates, Officer Poulette noticed Mr. Yates was showing signs of impairment.
Yates was given a series of field sobriety tests which showed additional clues of impairment. Yates admitted to using methamphetamine just before getting in his vehicle and driving. Additionally, Yates admitted to having a smoking device in his vehicle.
A search of his vehicle and his person yielded a glass smoking device and 8.5 grams of crystal-like substance that field tested as methamphetamine. Yates was charged with DWI drugs, possession of a controlled substance schedule 1 more than 2 grams but less than 10 grams, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
On April 3, Officers with the Evening Shade Police Department and Deputies with the Sharp County Sheriff’s Department executed a warrant at the residence of James and Vanessa Rowan at 21 Birdsong Road in Evening Shade Arkansas.
Officers had conducted an investigation into drug activity coming from the residence over several months. Three adults and one juvenile were residing in the residence at the time of the warrant. The three adults were identified as James W. Rowan, Vanessa Rowan and Kenna Fitzgerald.
A search of the property yielded a large amount of various methamphetamine-related drug paraphernalia, 11.3 grams of liquid which field tested as methamphetamine, a firearm, marijuana related paraphernalia, marijuana, unidentified pills, along with four deceased animals in cages in different stages of decomposition, along with what appeared to be raw sewage coming from the residence into the back yard. All three were transported to the Sharp County Jail.
Charges submitted to Sharp County Jail by Officer Poulette show the three adults charged with possession of schedule 1 methamphetamine with intent to distribute more than 10 grams but less than 200 grams (a class A felony), possession of drug paraphernalia (a class D and B felony), maintaining a drug premise (a class C felony), continuing criminal enterprise (a class Y felony), exposing a child to a chemical substance or methamphetamine, endangering the welfare of a minor (a class D felony), and animal cruelty four counts.
