HARDY, AR — Ethan J. Barnes, a Republican, has officially announced his candidacy for the Arkansas Senate. Barnes, a life-long resident of Sharp County, will seek office in the newly redrawn Senate District 22, which includes all of Independence County, Sharp County, and portions of Fulton, Izard, Lawrence, and Cleburne Counties. Barnes filed at the State Capitol on Tuesday in Little Rock, and released the following statement:

“I am a product of rural Arkansas. This is home. We labor day in and day out to protect our freedoms and liberties that our families enjoy and that our ancestors fought for. We work hard in Arkansas, and I believe anyone who threatens our constitutional freedoms should be challenged, foreign or domestic” Barnes said. “Our freedoms are under attack. It is time we elect a Senator who will fight for you, and for me— who will be honest, who will form an educated and thoughtful decision, and who will be available to District 22. It is time for change!”

Barnes, a fourth generation Arkansan and native of Ash Flat, holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Arkansas State University in Jonesboro. Barnes is an advocate for economic development and is the two-term former Past President of the Spring River Area Chamber of Commerce, and the two-term Immediate Past President of the Quad-Cities Rotary Club of Sharp County. He is currently serving his second term as Treasurer of the Republican Party of Sharp County and a third term as the GOP Statesman for Sharp County.

Barnes has been a member of the Republican National Committee since 2016. Barnes is the Sharp County Campaign Coordinator for the Sarah Huckabee Sanders for Arkansas Governor campaign; Barnes has volunteered locally on the Ozarka College Foundation Board of Directors since 2019 raising money for local scholarships, and the Highland School District Charitable Fund, raising donations for low-to-moderate income public education students.

Barnes is a distinguished Paul Harris Fellow, a member of the Highland Elks Lodge No. 2539 in Cherokee Village, and a member of the Arkansas State University Alumni Association in Jonesboro. He is a Board Member for the American Veterans Memorial in Ash Flat, a member of the Hardy History Association, and enjoys spending time exploring the natural state’s great outdoors across North-Central Arkansas.

Barnes has previously volunteered on several presidential, statewide, federal, and local races and was a 115th Congressional Intern for the Office of U.S. Senator Tom Cotton (R) in Washington, D.C. Barnes has volunteered for President Donald J. Trump’s Arkansas Campaigns and attended the President’s Inauguration on January 20, 2017. Barnes has also volunteered for campaigns of the following elected officials: U.S. Representative Rick Crawford, State Land Commissioner Tommy Land, Arkansas Supreme Court Chief Justice John Dan Kemp, State Senator Missy Thomas Irvin, District Court Judge Mark Johnson and a company of others over the years.

“We need strong, vocal, and thoughtful leadership in the Arkansas Senate. Arkansas is a proud place to call home, and I refuse to sit back any longer and allow lukewarm representation in Little Rock for our state. I humbly ask for your vote on May 24, 2022, in the Preferential Primary Election. Let’s win back our District. Vote Common Sense. Vote Barnes for a Better Arkansas.”
