A once empty building will have new tenants and a new place to worship is coming to Spring River country, as the doors to Cornerstone Chapel, located at 2 Wiyot Drive Cherokee Village 72529 at the corner of Cherokee Road and Wiyot Drive will open April 14.
According to Pastor Keith Chafin, the new church will be a place for any and all to come and gather for worship and to find a sense of community.
“For the last several years, we (Keith and his wife Barbie) have served the community as children’s pastors. We felt God calling us to step into more of pastoral role, but were hesitant because there was so much going on at the time,” Chafin said.
After starting a successful Celebrate Recovery (CR) Program at another church which was later moved to the Cherokee Village United Methodist Church, the Chafins were hearing the call to open a new place of worship and were now in the position to do so.
“After leaving our position as youth pastors and moving CR we spent a lot of time in prayer and knew it was time to step up and step out in faith,” Chafin said. “We are excited to take this next step in faith and to open the doors to the Cornerstone Chapel, and we could not be more thankful for this opportunity.”
The doors will open this Sunday and service times will be at 9 a.m., for first service no childcare, Sunday school or kids Sunday school will be offered during first service, however; second service at 10:30 a.m., will offer both childcare and the Cornerstone Kids program.
On Wednesdays. Cornerstone Starters which is for nursery and pre-k children will be offered at 6 p.m. in addition to an adult life group.
Chafin said Celebrate Recovery will continue to be held at the Cherokee Village United Methodist Church.
“We will keep CR at the Methodist Church. We are so thankful to partner with them and that they allow the program to grow. We have no desire to move it because God is working in that place. We want to invite anyone who would like to come, to visit us at Cornerstone Chapel,” Chafin said. “This will be a place where anyone can come and worship, everyone will be welcome. When we say everyone, we mean it.”
