Ozark Acres Suburban Improvement District (SID) Commissioner Krisellen Lang, who serves as the lake commissioner for the SID is asking for the community’s help.
As the Christmas season draws to a close many are wondering what to do with their Christmas trees and Lang is offering a solution
Anyone who would like to discard their real Christmas tree can do so by dropping the tree at the Ozark Acres Clubhouse or Guard House at Lake Vagabond Beach.
“If you have a live tree, please consider bringing it to the clubhouse or the guard house to be used as fish habitats,” Lang said. “Please remove all decorations and we will do the rest.”
Once all tinsel, ornaments and other decorations have been removed from the tree, Lang said the trees will be strategically dropped into the lakes.
According to the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, due to the way trees deteriorate, it is best to drop them in groups.
“The small branches will deteriorate quickly, so it’s best to sink the trees in groups. The trunks of the trees will last much longer, offering some woody cover long after a single tree’s attractiveness wanes,” Randy Zellers, Assistant Chief of Communications said. “Trees should be clean of all ornaments, lights and tinsel before they are dropped off. Artificial Christmas trees should not be used as fish habitat, either.”
