An inmate at the North Central Unit of the Arkansas Department of Corrections in Calico Rock added charges to his already lengthy list of felony convictions after assaulting a corrections officer with urine and feces.

According to a report by Special Agent Paul Robson ofthe Arkansas State Police 27-year-old Nathan Nickels has been charged with aggravated assault upon corrections officer and an enhancement penalty as a habitual offender.

The charges filed Jan. 10, stem from an incident in November of 2022 when the corrections officer (CO) was assigned to the Restrictive Housing Unit.

The CO opened the door to a cell containing Nickels and another inmate for the purpose of retrieving food trays at which time Nickels threw two cups containing feces and urine at the CO striking him in the face and soiling his uniform.

Nickels then yelled at the CO accusing him of causing Nickles to be incarcerated longer.

The CO quickly closed and secured the door and went to the infirmary for decontamination before driving to a medical care facility to receive antiviral medication.

In an interview with Nickels’ cell mate, the inmate stated he was asleep and woke up to observe Nickles standing by the door holding two cups in his hand.

This is not the first time Nickels has been charged with assaulting an officer or caused disruption in a correctional facility.
