Recently, the Beta Sigma Phi service sorority in Horseshoe Bend held an ice cream social event as a way of saying thank you to area first responders. Different ice creams, toppings, and a counter full of homemade treats combined with lots of friendly conversation to create a welcoming event for any first responders who had time to stop by.  Members enjoyed chatting with the responder community who were able to share in the relaxation.

Kathy Duncan, local chapter co-president said, “We really wanted to express our appreciation for all the first responders do and thank them for coming!”

Marlene McMullin, local chapter co-president, mentioned the group’s ‘Back the Blue’ fundraiser which (along with a nut sale) supports the scholarship program.  “Beta Sigma Phi members would like to thank all who support our ‘Back the Blue’ T-Shirt Sale.  Through your generous support, we were able to give a scholarship to a young man in Cave City who had lost his father, a policeman, in the line of duty.”

Beta Sigma Phi is an international organization which creates a comfortable, supportive environment where sisters-in-effort can learn new things, meet new friends, give back to the community, and create scholarships for college-bound students.  Members share a sisterly bond which helps them through life’s triumphs and tragedies. Strong shoulders and soft hands help create a sense of family where there may not otherwise be any.
