Bowling for Babies, a fundraiser to benefit the New Beginnings Pregnancy Center Aug. 7 from 6: 30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Frontier Lanes in Ash Flat is quickly approaching.
According to James Everett, one of the members of the Men’s Ministry at the Fellowship Southern Baptist Church, the organizers for the event said, the hope is to collect diapers and $1 bills to help the pregnancy center.
“It’s a way to raise a little bit of money for the pregnancy center in Highland and to collect diapers for infants because they’re always short on those,” Everett said. “We’re asking anyone that’s willing to buy a small package of diapers of ran infant and if they want to bowl, they can and if not they can just drop the diapers with us.”
Everett said those who attend will purchase rent their own shoes and lanes and funds will be raised by donation as the games are played.
“The catch is if they bowl a gutter bowl or bowl a strike, we’re asking they put a $1 bill in the bucket for Bowling for Babies. It’s going to be an exciting running back and forth with the bucket and people putting $1 in there,” Everett said. “It’s all good fun, putting the $1 isn’t required, but when people come out, we hope they’ll bring $20 to $40 in $1 bills. If they’re a really good bowler like Donald Britnell, they’re going to have to put a lot of $1 in that bucket.”
Everett said the bowling alley does not keep large volumes of $1 on hand and reminds those who plan to attend to bring some with them.
“We’d like to have a good turnout to support the pregnancy center because I had girls on my bus, that got pregnant in the last few years, and they carried their babies to term. I was excited they did that and part of that was because they were helped by the pregnancy center,” Everett said. “That’s the reason I put this together because it really touched me. People in that position need counseling and help to make a decision. I hope everyone will come out and have fun, show up drop off a box of diapers.”
