While some across the country are turning their eyes to the skies after reportedly seeing strange objects, reported to be drones, many in the Ozarks looked for a different reason the morning of Dec. 13
The moon was beautiful and bright Friday morning casting a ring that could be seen spanning miles of skyline.
Many took to social media inquiring about the rings and lines in the skies.
Meteorologist Ryan Vaughn offered clarification for some upon seeing pictures posted.
“If you notice these two lines very close together at roughly 30,000 feet; that shows that the temperature in the dew point are almost identical,” Vaughn said referring to a graph he had shared. “That means that the air is saturated in the upper parts of the atmosphere this morning. So, that line is a contrail from a jet. The same atmospheric conditions allow us to see halos around the moon.”
Some shared folklore regarding the rings stating they are an indication of incoming rainfall.
This was reenforced by the National Weather Service as a near 100 percent chance of rain is forecast to move in this evening and Saturday, Dec. 14.
