The Cherokee Village Police Department is investigating the death of a Ukrainian citizen whose body was found in Lake Cherokee early Saturday morning.
According to authorities, on July 27, 911 dispatch received a call for help.
When authorities arrived on scene, they were told the body of 46-year-old Sergii Fetsiuk was still in the water where it had been located by others at the residence.
Authorities learned Fetsiuk was in the U.S. on a work visa, and he and others from the farm he had been working at were given the weekend off and permission to use a lake house on West Lakeshore Drive in Cherokee Village.
On the evening of July 26, Fetsiuk allegedly began drinking and left the home around 3 a.m. to go swimming.
When the others noticed he was missing the following morning they began to search.
While searching the water, Fetsiuk’s body was spotted approximately 30 feet from the shoreline and 911 was contacted.
Cherokee Village Fire Chief Kal Dienst was able to retrieve Fetsiuk’s body which has since been sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab.
The Cherokee Village Police and Fire Departments and Sharp County Corner’s Office responded to the scene.
The Ukrainian Consulate has also been notified.
