In an effort to ease financial burdens for families about to resume school, Arkansas has declaried Aug. 5-6 to be a 2023 Sales Tax Holiday. Purchses in certain categories such as “Human wearing apparel for general use” can be made without sales tax being collected. School supples, clothing, and electronics a student may need for the school year will be more affordable as taxes won’t have to be paid on exempt purchases in the state of Arkansas this weekend.
According to the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration (DFA), “Beginning at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday August 5, 2023, and ending at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday August 6, 2023, the State of Arkansas will hold its sales tax holiday allowing shoppers the opportunity to purchase certain Electronic Devices, School Supplies, School Art Supplies, School Instructional Materials, and Clothing free of state and local sales or use tax.”
“All retailers are required to participate and may not charge tax on items that are legally tax-exempt during the Sales Tax Holiday.” A DFA-approved list of tax exempt item can be found here.
