As possible record breaking temperatures move into the area, the National Weather Service (NWS) says so does a high risk of wildfire danger.
On Feb. 25, the NWS issued an warning for an Elevated Wildfire Threat in place for much of the state.
On Feb. 26, the warning was expanded for the southern portion of the state, however for those in northern Arkansas there is good news.
Relative humidity is rising and forecast to reach 40-50 percent for upper portion of the state thanks to the influx of winds from the south.
National Weather Service Forecaster Willie Gilmore said despite the rise in humidity, wind gusts of up to 30 miles per hour today and potential gusts of up to 40 miles per hour Feb. 27 mean the risk for outdoor fires to spread quickly is higher.
Additionally, the NWS warns finer fuels such as grasses and shrubs are drying out.
The tri county area is currently listed as moderate risk.
On Tuesday, temperatures are forecast to reach into the lower 80’s followed by a drop in temperatures as a front moves in bringing a 40 percent chance of showers with it.
The temperatures will feel more seasonable with highs in the 40s Wednesday and lows in the 20s.
