Elizabeth Daigle, County Extension Agent ~ Family and Consumer Science is pleased to announce that the long running Extension Get Fit Classes held in Izard County is gearing up for a new year and you are invited to attend! Extension Get Fit is an affordable exercise class that’s open to everyone! You can join the classes for just $20.00 a year! We have space open for those wishing to join and encourage anyone interested in improving their bone density, range of motion, flexibility, greater strength, increased energy, and more muscle mass to come join us.

Izard County is fortunate enough to offer two exercise classes meeting at Calico Rock and the Brockwell Senior Citizen’s Center! The Calico Rock class is led by certified volunteer instructor Judy Eldridge. The Calico Rock Class meets on Wednesday and Friday from 10:00-11:30 at the Methodist Church Fellowship Building located in Calico Rock. Calico Rock class enrollment will be January 18, 2023, at 10:00 am.

Another option for county residents is the Senior Center located at Brockwell. The Class meets three days a week on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday starting at 10:00am. This Class is led by certified volunteer instructor Chieko Johnson. Brockwell class enrollment will be January 23rd at 10:00am. If you are interested in joining either of these amazing groups, please come out to the locations on sign up days and meet and greet the leaders and see what this program has to offer you to maintain good health. All instructors have been trained and certified through the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service to lead the class.

A regular exercise program can help with weight management, reduce diabetes, and stroke risk, increase energy levels, and improve overall sense of well-being. The Extension Get Fit Program is based upon years of research on how strength training and proper nutrition improve the health of women and men of all ages. Research shows that a program of strength training not only improves bone density but reduces falls, improves arthritis symptoms, and increases flexibility and strength. The program is appropriate for both sedentary and very active women and men. Participants must be 18 years or older to join the class. If you are interested in joining the Extension, Get Fit Classes, please contact Elizabeth Daigle at the County Extension Office at (870) 368-4323 or through e-mail at [email protected]
