Circuit Judge Kevin King was a graduate of Highland High School in 1972, the University of Arkansas in 1976, and the University of Arkansas School of Law in 1978.  He served the counties of Sharp, Lawrence, Randolph, and Jackson counties as Circuit Judge of the Third Judicial District.  Judge King was always concerned about the welfare of students.  The Kevin King Memorial Scholarship was established to advance students through education.

The following students were selected as recipients for the 2023 school year:

Sharp County: Matthew Harper, 1st place-$1,000, plans to attend the University of Arkansas and pursue a degree in biology and pre-med to eventually attend UAMS for pediatric medicine. Dani Jordan, 2nd place-$500, plans to attend Arkansas State University to achieve a degree in music education. Matthew and Dani are graduates of Highland High School.

Randolph County: McKenzi Mustread, 1st place-$1,000, from Maynard High School plans to attend Arkansas State University in Mountain Home to achieve a degree in Mortuary Science.

Jackson County: Mary Winemiller-Sanders, Newport High School, 1st place-$1,000, plans to attend Arkansas State University in Newport to achieve a degree in Agri Business and then further her career in law to become an environmental attorney. Hannah Nicholson, 2nd place-$500, of Tuckerman High School plans to attend Arkansas State University in Newport to pursue a degree in accounting.

Lawrence County: Chloe Prater, 1st place-$1,000, Hoxie High School, plans to attend Arkansas State university for a bachelor’s degree in nursing. Lily Lewis, 2nd place-$500, Walnut Ridge High School, plans to complete an associate degree in nursing from Black River Technical College then transfer to Arkansas State University to complete a Bachelor’s degree in nursing.


All scholarships may be renewed as long as students remain in school.  The Kevin King Memorial Golf Tournament has been established to support these scholarships.  This year approximately $7,500 will be presented to local students.  The KKMG Tournament was June 3 at the Cherokee Village South Golf Course to support these scholarships.  Follow us on Facebook at Kevin King Memorial Golf Tournament.
