It has been a busy week for Melbourne Bearkatz Athletics! All four basketball teams clinched Conference Championships and the #1 seed heading into District Tournament action while also honoring the 2021 senior athletes for basketball and track.
The seniors were recognized on Tuesday, February 2 at Bearkatz Gymnasium. These young men and women have worked tirelessly to give this community athletic programs they can be proud of. Not only have they done a great job representing this school and community on the field, but off the field as well. The following seniors were recognized for their dedication to Bearkatz athletics: Audra Blevins, Track & Cross Country; Kiley Webb, basketball & track; Hallie Weaver, basketball; Kylee Humphries, basketball, track, & softball; Josie Roark, basketball, track, cross country, & softball; Nancy Wann, basketball; Riley Gray, basketball, track & football; Ty Miller, basketball, football, & baseball; Layton Hennings, basketball & track; Ty Cooper, basketball, football, & baseball; Remi Lawrence, basketball & baseball; Allyson Smith, basketball & golf.
The last games of the regular season were held on Thursday, February 4, 2021. The 7th grade boys, JR Boys, and SR Boys hosted Tuckerman at Bearkatz Gymnasium. They swept the Tuckerman Bulldogs and in exciting fashion, Layton Hennings hit the last second go ahead bucket for the Senior Boys to clinch their Conference Championship!
The 7th grade girls, JR Girls, and SR girls traveled to Mountain View for 3 non-conference games on February 4, 2021. They swept the Yellowjackets with another exciting last second go ahead bucket by Kenley McCarn in the Senior Girls game.
The Junior High District tournament is this week, and the Senior High District Tournament is next week. Since all Bearkatz teams are the #1 seed they will host their District Tournament games.
